StarLink in Kellogg's Cereal?

A kellogg executive announced Satuday, October 21 that one of its cereal plants has scaled back its production because a supplier could not guarantee its corn was not contaminated with a genetically modified grain, StarLink, that hasn't been approved for human consumption.

"It was a precautionary measure to make sure none [of the corn] gets through," said Jow Stewart. "We have no reason to think this has gotten into our supply."

Some grain suppliers have been unable to guarantee that is free of StarLink; additionally, farmers came forward with allegations last week that they weren't informed of the restrictions of planting and seperating the gene-altered corn. It is believed that in violation of federal regulations, StarLink has been mixed in with conventional corn in multiple grain elevators across the country.

Kraft Foods Taco Bell brand and Safeway brand name taco shells have also had the presence of StarLink detected in them, and they've been recalled.
