b. 1972

Refused to descend from a tree.
Asked by members of the radical group Earth First! to climb a 1000-year-old redwood tree that was scheduled to be chopped down. Stayed for more than two years in a perch nearly 200 feet off the ground while giving hundreds of interviews about deforestation issues and advocating corporate responsibility.

Finally touched ground after negotiating the preservation of the tree and surrounding area. Became an author, lecturer, and advocate for environmentalist causes and personal responsibility.
