Declared that the Earth was not the center of the universe.
 As a mathematics instuctor, his duties included teaching astronomy to medical students. Started playing with a dangerous device known as a telescope that allowed him to see celestial objects more clearly. This led him to devise a theory that the Earth revolved around the Sun, which ran counter to what was common knowledge at the time.
 Was found by the Inquisition to be "vehemently suspected of heresy," and eventually condemned to house arrest for the rest of his life.
