Background:
Living in South Africa as a successful lawyer, Gandhi went on to become the guiding force behind the struggle for Indians’ rights in that country. From there, he returned to India, where he fought and helped win independence from Great Britain, never straying from his belief in and practice of nonviolence.

Ultimate Result:
Assassination. Also father of the satyagraha method of nonviolent activism and inspiration behind millions of peace activists.
