Background:
The mentor of Plato, he developed the Socratic method of teaching, which focused on asking critical questions rather than a lecture format. Socrates crossed the line, though, when he challenged the accepted gods of Athens, and he was charged with impiety.

Ultimate Result:
Death by hemlock. Also became an integral figure in the development of Western philosophy.
