Among the many amazing things Brian May has done in his life, including developing a truly unique guitar sound, writing the songs "Keep Yourself Alive" and "We Will Rock You" for Queen and serving as an astrophysicist that helped guide the New Horizons probe to Pluto, he has also been a strong voice for the animals in the UK and around the world. Most recently, he has served as the Vice President of Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).
He recently quit this job in protest after it was discovered that the organization was offering its coveted "RSPCA Assured" food certification label to farms that were raising animals in terrible conditions. About 40 farms in the RSPCA Assured scheme had been investigated by animal welfare activists who found overcrowding, poor hygiene and in some cases, physical abuse of livestock by farm workers.
