Cory Booker, the vegan Senator from New Jersey, delivered an ultra-marathon 25+ hour speech yesterday and the day before. Beyond the fact that this was almost certainly the most powerful collection of the Trump administration's many, many sins ever delivered in spoken form (every word was substantive and powerful), a lot of people admired his almost superhuman stamina.
A lot of champion triathletes and ultra-marathoners have adopted vegan diets to increase their endurance and reduce the amount of time it takes them to recover from their races. And a whole lot of people, athletes or not, have found that eating a vegan diet helps them stay focused, clear-headed and energetic through difficult, strenuous or time-consuming projects. Did his long-time vegan diet help Sen. Booker achieve this monumental feat? We'll never know for sure, but I would like to think that it played a role.
By the way: Another lesson we need to take away from Sen. Booker's amazing feat was his repeated admonishment for all of us to be willing to get into some "good trouble" by making a personal effort to preserve our fragile democracy.
