Last year, in 2025, saw huge drops in the number of companion animals killed in shelters declined sharply as more and more people have opened their hearts and brought more dogs and cats to their homes and families. The number of shelter adoptions has grown steadily for the last ten years. 90% of shelters across the country either improved or maintained their lifesaving from 2024 to 2025 and nearly two-thirds of all shelters have reached no-kill status.
