We are still seeing a lot of robins around our Chicago neighborhood, so there is certainly no imminent threat to their survival, but learning that their numbers appear to be declining is still somewhat disconcerting. Wildlife experts tend to focus most of their attention on species that are under threat or in obvious decline. There are still about as many robins in the US as there are people, so there aren't as many studies about them as there are about more endangered species like gray wolves or polar bears. Still, given robins' significance to their native ecosystems, it's worth trying to understand the factors that may be threatening them.
