You probably wouldn't know this by following the mainstream media, but the climate crisis is more dire by the day, and most of us reading this are a part of the problem. A paper published by researchers at University of Oxford and University of Leiden determined that the net effect of food (mostly meat) production, energy consumption and critical habitat destruction has cost the world $5.7 Trillion in the form of impacts of climate disruption, biodiversity loss, nutrient pollution and freshwater use.
This is all human-made and while it's difficult and frustrating to convince businesses or the government act, particularly here in the US, there are things each of up can do to lessen our personal impact. Most importantly, reduce or quit your meat and dairy consumption. But flying and driving less helps as well. We have reached the pointed of no return yet, but it will take effort on the part of all of us to preserve the world for our children's children.
