Like in many parts of the world, the people of The Netherlands ring in the New Year with lots of fireworks. This is a lot of fun, but it's terrifying for countless companion animals as well as wild animals, small children and people who suffer from PTSD. Now, because of this and because of all the damage done with fireworks, the government of The Netherlands has banned the use of private fireworks. As an American who spends every evening of the 4th of July comforting our panicked dog, I wouldn't mind a similar law in the US.
