Slowly but steadily, the horrendous marine parks that are notorious for holding intelligent cetaceans in deplorable conditions while forcing them to perform humiliating tricks are falling into disrepute, due to pressure from animal lovers and falling ticket sales thanks to rising awareness of the archaic forms of "entertainment." The latest to fall is France's Marineland in Antibes, which was hit by a firestorm of controversy in March after two of its orcas died within five months of each other.
The park has until December 2026 to part with its two remaining orcas, Wikie and Keijo. They claim that their priority is to “relocate all of the animals to the best facilities currently available." Several animal rights and animal protection groups are working to ensure Marineland stays true to its word.
