There are about 70 billion animals around the world who are raised and slaughtered to be our food. Their numbers are being kept very high in order to keep up with our insatiable desires to eat meat, dairy and eggs, and they consume most of the world's grains and most of the world's arable land. An unnaturally high percentage of the world's freshwater is used to feed them. They also produce unmanageable amounts of fecal waste and contribute more to climate change than all of the world's cars, trucks, trains, boats and aircraft combined. And the vast majority of them live in tightly packed conditions that are the perfect breeding grounds for the next big pandemic and which greatly exacerbate the effects of a hurricane or earthquake.
The amount of resources it takes to raise this many animals for food is absolutely untenable and is placing insurmountable burdens on the planet and all of its inhabitants. And all of this misery is used to produce a product that we absolutely do not need and that millions us are very comfortably living without.
The world would be such a healthier place if everyone stopped eating animals.
