In a new study at Colorado State University, researchers noticed that individual elephants were responding to others' calls. They recorded these calls and broadcast the recordings to everyone in the herd. When each elephant heard his or her "name", they trumpeted out a response.
We have all been taught that humans are separate from all other animals, but the lines of differentiation keep blurring more and more. When everyone finally realizes that we have far more in common with other animals than we once thought, perhaps we will be able to see them as fellow citizens and not simply a source of food.
