Recently a passenger climbing onto a horse carriage in New York City was trampled to death when something spooked the carriage's overworked horse. This is just one more of many examples of why this form of anachronistic animal cruelty has no place in our modern society. Fortunately, there is a wonderful alternative. There are now elegant electric carriages with all the craftsmanship and pageantry of their horse-drawn counterparts, but none of the animal cruelty. Let's encourage our cities to start utilizing these.
