A large portion of the US population has lost its basic sense of kindness and decency and are falling into a cult-like depravity aimed at destroying the lives of the most vulnerable among us as their leaders call for blind hatred against their made-up enemies in their rush to turn our country into an authoritarian state. The Nazis vilified and set out to obliterate the Jews; The Chinese have vilified and are working to obliterate the Uyghurs; and the MAGA Republicans have chosen non-white immigrants as their target (also the LBGT community, but that's a different meme for a different time). Not only are they sending bands of anonymous armed and masked thugs to randomly kidnap Latino and Arabic people and cart them off to who-knows-where without warrants, charges or any sense of due process, but they are also in the process of spending billions of dollars of our taxpayer dollars to build massive concentration camp-like prisons to house these poor captured souls.
And now, the last vestiges of their collective decency and humanity have completely fallen off the cliff with the announcement that they plan to desecrate and forever severely damage and possible destroy one of America's most sacred National Parks – the Florida Everglades – simply so they can inflict the maximum amount of pain on the people they have decided they don't like in a naked attempt to frighten all of their perceived enemies into giving up our power and allowing these berserkers run roughshod over our human rights and our freedoms.
Most of us in the vegan community have become who we are because we share values of love and compassion and a willingness to stand up to protect the most vulnerable and mistreated among us. This is such an issue. The lives of innocent people are being needlessly trampled and the Republicans are willing and eager to lay waste to one of the world's most hallowed grounds in the process.
