In its relentless quest to coddle the oil industry by villainizing and trying to choke off all alternative energy sources and hastening the effects of climate change and thus hastening the end of humankind on Earth, the Trump Administration wants to radically amp up oil production in the Gulf of Mexico by proposing to cut off all protections for whales, sea turtles and coral reefs, accelerating their extinction and turning the entire Gulf into a lifeless desert where the oil barons can drill to their heart's content.
Ina federal register notice, the U.S. Department of Interior says it will hold a rare convening of a high-level group called the Endangered Species Committee on March 31, 2026 “regarding an Endangered Species Act exemption for Gulf of America Oil and Gas Activities.” That could kick off a months-long process to decide whether to give special treatment to the oil industry by allowing offshore drilling to go forward even if it would lead to the extinction of Gulf species.
It is currently too soon to know if there will be public comment period to help protect these creatures and ecosystems from the cruel grip of the worst excesses of unbridled capitalism. We promise to keep you updated as the situation unfolds.
