Dow Chemical, whose famous inventions like napalm, agent orange, dioxin and others caused horrific events that helped create the modern environmental movement that formed partly as a reaction to them, has since used massive public relations campaigns in an attempt to burnish their image which led to the creation of corporate greenwashing. Now, they're at it again. The State of Texas has filed a lawsuit against a massive Seadrift petrochemical plant for dumping massive amounts of microplastics into the San Antonio Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Microplastics are deeply toxic to fish and other wildlife and have a deleterious affect on human health as well.
Dow responded by asking the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to bend the rules to let them pollute at will, and for some totally messed up reason, the commission is actually considering the request. The lawsuits, including one by the environmental law firm Earthjustice, are still pending.
