The most respected body of scientists for food issues, the EAT Lancet Commission, has just completed a six-year study that proposed a “planetary health diet” centered on grains, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes which would improve everyone's health while also reducing global warming.
The report concluded that without substantial changes to the food system, the worst effects of climate change will be unavoidable, even if humans successfully switch to cleaner energy.
According to the report, the Planetary Health Diet would save the lives of more that 15 million people each year – people who are now dying from heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and many other preventable diseases.
Of course, here at Vegan Street, we recommend a fully vegan diet that will be even more beneficial to our health and our planet.
