One of the reasons given for the sudden rightward shift in US politics is so many people's (and the media's) obsession with the high cost of eggs. They don't talk about how the avian flu has decimated the nation's hen populations or how the major egg corporations have colluded to keep prices high. But whatever price people have to pay for eggs, it is a tiny pittance compared to the price paid by the hens themselves or their brothers.
