It's pretty safe to say that no one wants to have to endure another pandemic, so when the possibility of a new pandemic arises, we should all take whatever steps to prevent it. H5N1 avian flu, has been particularly virulent, killing tens of millions of chickens and other bids. It has also crossed over into dozens of mammalian species including bears, sea lions and cattle. But hasn't really infected humans until now. A worker on a dairy farm in Texas recently tested positive for H5N1. Hopefully, this is just an outlier and perhaps this is the case. But as long as billions of animals are packed into filthy and overcrowded barns for their entire lives so that we can bite into their flesh, it's only a matter of time until we get bitten back.
