Fun fact: approximately one-third of the American diet, including many fruits, vegetables and nuts, relies on bees for pollination, and as a result, bees are carted across the country by industrial bee keepers and generally treated no better than the other farmed animals who are exploited for their flesh and bodily-produced products. Now some recent studies, primarily by researcher and author Stephen Buchmann, have shown that bees have far more emotional intelligence than we would have ever imagined. Buchmann's research has even suggested that "colony collapse" may be at least partially due to psychological stress caused by the brutal practices of industrialized agriculture.
