The mighty Amazon rainforest faced more threats than almost any other ecosystem on the planet. And by far, it's largest threat is the animal agriculture industry. Each year, millions of acres of rainforest are cleared for land to graze cattle or grow crops to feed them.
One bright spot in all of this, though, is a shift in the mindsets of millions of typically meat-loving Brazilians, record numbers of whom have been shunning meat in favor of plant-based foods. The rapidly growing numbers of vegans in Asia, Europe and the US are also having an impact on Brazilian beef exports. It's a long hard slog to protect the Amazon rainforest, but veganism is perhaps the best tool for helping us get there.
