70 billion chickens die each year across the world to become food (8 billion in the US alone). It's almost impossible to wrap one's head around such a vast number, but it means that about 2,220 chickens meet their end every single second! It takes me on average about 8 seconds to read this headline out loud, which adds up to nearly 18,000 dead chickens. Chickens are known do be bright animals when they get the chance, with a surprisingly large vocabulary and a fierce desire to protect their young. Yet nearly all of them are slaughtered by the time they are 42-days old. It is up to all of us to change this.
