There are several areas and communities in the world where people are, on average, so healthy that these areas are considered "blue zones" – the island of Okinawa, the island of Ikaria in Greece, the province of Ogliastra in Sardinia, Italy, the community of Loma Linda in California and the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. There are several things that the people who live in these Blue Zones all have in common: they have a strong sense of family and community, they stay active, they avoid stress by giving time to themselves, they feel a purpose in life – and perhaps most importantly, they eat exclusively or almost exclusively plants. For those of us who run Vegan Street, this has pretty much been our lifestyle for nearly 30 years, and it may already be your lifestyle, but if it isn't, a few simple lifestyle changes could lead you a much longer and healthier life.
