Eric Adams is the prototypical adversity kicking New Yorker. Born into poverty and having been racially profiled by police as a child, he went on to serve 22 years as a police officer himself before entering politics and ultimately becoming the Borough President for Brooklyn. Now he is the clear favorite to become the next mayor of America's largest city.
In 2016, Adams became a vegan to combat the debilitating effects of type 2 diabetes (including temporary blindness). Since then, he has instituted and promoted numerous plant-based initiatives throughout the city including a plant-based medicine program, distributing vegan meals and helping set up the Plant-Based Community Fridge.
