Those elaborate spectacles of brightly dressed rich people prancing around on horseback surrounded by their large packs of baying hounds in search of some poor fox who will usually be ritualistically murdered by the end of the day are now a sad relic of the past, at least in Scotland, thanks to a new law banning the use of dog packs to hunt wild mammals. The Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire Hunt – which first met in the 1700s – announced it had held its final meet. Hooray for these small but important victories for animal justice.
