This smoothie is rich, creamy and packed with rich chocolate flavor. Depending on your preference for bitterness, add or don’t add the optional sweetener. Chai concentrate adds a great depth of flavor, but if you buy one commercially, check to make sure it doesn’t have honey.
Please note that if you want a velvety smooth drink, it is best to soak the cashews before blending so factor that into your time.
1 very ripe banana, peeled (ideally frozen), sliced 1 cup plain, unsweetened non-dairy milk ¼ cup vegan chai concentrate (I used RishiMasala Chai) ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract 2 tablespoons slavery-free cocoa powder (unsweetened is my preference but you do you) 1 tablespoon cacao nibs, plus extra for serving on top (I used Natierra Earth) 1 - 2 soft dates, pitted or 1 tablespoon liquid sweetener, like maple syrup (optional, the chai concentrate is sweet enough for me) ¼ cup cashews, soaked in hot water for 30 minutes and drained ½ cup ice Nutmeg and/or cinnamon with nibs to sprinkle on top
Combine everything up to the ice in your blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a glass and sprinkle the optional spices and cacao nibs on top to serve.
