Yet another victory for the world's Toros Bravos! Recently, 93 members of Columbia's Parliament voted in favor of banning bullfighting – with only two voting against it – sending the bill to President Gustavo Petro for final approval.
Petro, the country’s first leftist president, celebrated the victory on X, writing: “Congratulations to those who managed that death will no longer be a show.”
There has been a global shift in attitudes about bullfighting and the horrible abuse and murder inflicted upon its involuntary bovine participants. Bullfighting has recently been banned in many places, and it is currently only legal in seven other countries: France, Portugal,Mexico, Ecuador, Peru,Spainand Venezuela and it faces strong and vocal opposition in each of them.
We need to keep up the fight against this cruel "sport" and send the matadors and picadors into the past with the gladiators from where they evolved.
