Could a smoothie with all the luxurious, deep flavors of the Middle East bring us world peace? No, but at the very least, we can nourish ourselves and our loved ones while working toward that goal. This smoothie is a little decadent and wholly unusual but I believe it will be on your must repeat list after trying it once. Some of the ingredients are more rare but they will last a while and you may find yourself returning to them as well. It’s creamy, thick, just sweet enough, and full of the hopeful summer vibes of roses. I hope you enjoy it. I know you’re thinking, “Tahini in a smoothie?” but trust me on this. If you absolutely don’t, I forgive you. Try another nut butter or perhaps whole nuts, like pistachios.
This recipe makes two large smoothies but feel free to halve for one.
2 cups non-dairy, unsweetened milk 5.3-ounces vanilla non-dairy yogurt 1 large peeled banana (ideally frozen for creaminess) 2 tablespoons unsprayed, edible rose petals (I usedPanneer Roseby Diaspora Co.) 2 tablespoons culinary rose water 2 tablespoons quick-cooking oats 2 - 3 dates, seeds removed (soaked for 10 minutes in hot water and drained if dry) 2 tablespoons tahini 1 teaspoon ground cardamom 1 cup ice
Add all the ingredients into your blender and blend until smooth.
