Recently, animal lovers have delighted in media coverage of "megapods" of more than 100 humpback whales swimming off the coast of Australia. After the whaling industry nearly killed off Australia's humpback population, the government sprung into action and protected these magnificent creatures from further murder and now their numbers have grown more than 25-fold. They still face the challenge of climate change's effects on the local krill populations (humpback's major food source), but this is still very good news.
