In a major blow to Midwestern puppy mills and a major victory for canines and felines, A new law bans the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores across the State of Illinois. The City of Chicago passed a similar law this past May, and Illinois now joins California, Maryland, Maine, Washington and nearly 400 localities across 30 states in prohibiting the sale of puppy mill puppies in pet stores. Virtually all pet store dogs come from cruel puppy mills that treat mother dogs as breeding machines and their offspring as commodities. Meanwhile, there are millions of wonderful puppies, kittens , dogs and cats sitting in shelters yearning for a forever home.
