If you ever drive through the US Midwest, most of what you will see is mile after mile after mile of cornfields and soybean fields. In fact, more than half of all grain in the US is fed to farm animals that produce a paltry 18% of the calories they take in. If everyone quit eating animals, we could quickly convert millions of acres of cropland to beautiful forests, savannas and prairies that would create amazingly biodiverse ecosystems and make enough cuts in greenhouse gas emissions to largely alleviate the climate crisis. In fact, moving everyone to a plant-based diet is almost certainly the most powerful way to protect our planet (not to mention our own health).
