We have been fed these bucolic images of cattle contentedly grazing in lush carpets of grass with gentle hills, forests on the horizon under bright azure skies peppered with a few puffy clouds, and many cattle get to spend a part of their lives in this type of environment. But during at least the last several months of their lives, they are "finished" in giant filthy overcrowded feedlots where they are fed an unnatural diet of corn and soy laced with antibiotics (which are fed more for weight gain that disease prevention) to quickly fatten them up to prepare them for their premature slaughter.
