Each year, nearly 800,000 Americans suffer a stroke. 140,000 of them die and many thousands more are disabled. Most strokes are caused by a blood clot in the brain and the current treatment of blood thinning medication is only effective in 20% of the cases.
A recent preclinical trial was able to raise success rate increases to 60 per cent when the medication is given with the broccoli-derived compound. This naturally occurring compound does not cause any signs of bleeding, which is a common side effect associated with blood-thinning agents tested in stroke treatment, and it can be applied by paramedics that can make it even more effective.
The broccoli-based medicine can also be given to high-risk patients to reduce their chances of getting a stroke in the first place. Our source for this meme is the Heart Research Institute.
