In 1255 AD, during the reign of King Henry VIII , the first elephants arrived in England, and for the next 750 years, these noble creatures have been imprisoned in UK zoos and circuses. In 2020, a law finally banned circuses from using elephants, and now a new bill promises to prevent zoos from adding elephants, citing the extreme mental illness they suffer in captivity.
The bill stops short of liberating the 51 elephants currently on display in 11 different zoos across the UK. This seems like a good time to pressure the zoos and the government to release these majestic yet tortured animals into sanctuaries. You in?
