Canada Goose, one of the last major companies to widely use fur, has been a source of ire for animal lovers and animal activists for years. They have vigorously defended the use of coyote-fur collars which involve horribly cruel abuse to the coyotes who died for them, and their coats and jackets are worn by hordes of well-to-do but clueless hipsters around the world.
The luxury clothier said Thursday it will stop buying fur by the end of this year and cease manufacturing fur products no later than the end of 2022.
Is there still stuff about the Canada Goose brand to be pissed about? Yes. In addition to the coyote fur they are now phasing out, CG coats still use down, painfully and cruelly taken from geese, who are eventually slaughtered.
Despite this, is this still progress? Most definitely. Step by step.
Never forget that activism makes a difference in the world. Change may not be as fast or as perfect as we'd like but it does eventually happen if we stick with it. Down is next!
